Howto links:

Here you will find general information on how to identify components, read schematics, general electronics, soldering, desoldering and how to construct projects.

Circuit Cellar - this is the source of all things HCS! ;-) Really it's a great resource, if you don't subscribe may I suggest that you do (though it's not a requirement). Circuit Cellar has back issues available on CD or paper and has an online HCS article index.

Resistor Color Codes & Primer

Capacitor identification

Inductor identification - Actually this is a pretty good site for general inductor information.

Starting out to solder - Hey that's it's title, but it is a pretty good page for explaining soldering.

Soldering Howto an intro on how to solder (which isn't as hard as it sounds).

Low Cost SMD Soldering Guide - How to solder most SMD packages for under $50 by Colin O'Flynn. This articles coems to us from AVR Freaks and in my opinion is an excellent article.

Desoldering Howto also has a Bad soldering section.

PCB FAQ- A howto geared towards those who wish to make their own circuit boards.

Epanorama - a general resource for electronics on the web. This includes prototyping, assembly, programming and others.

Learn C - Control And Embedded Systems guide to learning C. Basically it's from an embedded PC point of view.

Phaedrus systems Quality Embedded Software Techniques - C51 Primer, C traps and pitfalls, embedded debugging and other papers papers.

How to read a schematic a beginners quide to reading a schematic.

AVR Freaks - an excellent resource for all things AVR. This site is well organized! This site does require a login but if you're interested in AVR's it's worth it.

PIC List - The PICList is a collection of people interested in the Microchip PIC and other similar processors who have requested that email sent to the PICList email address be forwarded to them.

ChipWeb Wireless FAQ - IOSoft's Wireless FAQ for their ER21 & ER22 embedded Wireless development kit. So far it's the only one I've seen.

8051 stuff a collection of links related to the 8051 including C, assembly, boards and ASICs.

The Final Word on the 8051 is an online book on the Intel 8051 processor.

Project Articles

How to build a COMM-Link - a work in progress. Basically how to take a development board and turn it into a COMM-Link for the HCS II.

How to write software for a COMM-Link - a work in progress. Basically how to write the software so your COMM-Link can talk to the SC on the RS485 network.

Books - One of the best places to search for books on the internet

Looking for a good serious book on electronics, check out "The Art of Electronics" (ISBN: 0521370957) and "Student Manual for the Art of Electronics" (ISBN: 0521377099). I have both, these are college text books so it's not really a dummies howto book but both books are books I wish I had when going through college.

"Programming and Customizing the AVR Microcontroller" by Dhananjay V. Gadre (ISBN:007134666X). Good book on the Atmel AVR processors.

"Programming & Customizing PICmicro Microcontrollers" by Mike Pedko (ISBN:0071361723). Good book on PICs but has lot of error (grammar, spelling and some code).
