The Longest Day cue sheets (PDFs at the bottom of the page)
Nothing over complex, the cue sheets for the Longest Day event. Each is a PDF file. Just print out the cue sheet that you need. I will not have the cue sheets printed for hand out. The riders cue sheets are meant to be double sided and printed on 8 1/2 x 11. The SAG cue sheets are also meant to be double sided and printed on legal (in landscape mode). The Double Century GPX file is meant for those GPS units that support the format. If you use the GPX file make sure you still bring a copy of the printed cue sheet!
There have been no changes to the route from last year's route. There are a few thing to note (see below). There is no way we'd be able to squeeze in all this information into the ride sheets and keep them usable.
First I'd like to thank Max Fine and his team and Dean Rice and his team for checking the routes. Here's what didn't make it to the cue sheets (no route changes are needed):
- This year many cyclists have noticed that a lot of our favorite roads have become more heavily used by cars. Adjust your riding accordingly. This entire ride is shared with auto traffic so be careful out there!
- Mile: 37.5 - The bicycle shop is out of business.
- Mile: 37.0 - In Byrum Township, it appears that road construction is imminent, although mostly on the opposite (northbound) side. For now, the southbound shoulder is closed by orange barrels for a hundred yards or so. It is just something to be aware of.
- Also note that the condition of the road surfaces hasn't improved in most places (they're actually paved a few places). Be careful of potholes, utility covers, road seams and broken pavement.
- Mile: 37.8 The 183/206 to Interstate 80 interchange (mile 37.8) is hairy . . . even in the car! With a bicycle-critical eye, I could see that getting to the left (for 183 South) could be difficult. You have an excellent warning statement on the cue sheet, but perhaps it could be even bigger and bolder . . . it just worries me. That is the only place (other than making the left out of the motel) where Jim and I could see experienced cyclists being challenged.
- Mile: 48.0 - Construction at Route 206 and Main Street Chester (Route 24) is complete. It took forever. It is still not the most bicycle-friendly intersection due to narrow lanes and the absence of a shoulder; however, at least it is freshly paved . . . and there is no avoiding it. For the savvy cyclist it probably no longer warrants special mention.
- Mile: 66.2 - At mile 66.2, R onto Finderne Avenue. Although your cue sheet and my navigation system call Finderne County 533, as do subsequent sign posts farther along, the sign elevated above the intersection adjacent to the name Finderne says 633. I would recommend calling that right turn simply Finderne Avenue (which is marked by an oversized name tag above the road) and drop the county number to avoid any possible confusion.
- Mile: 71.9 - The road surface looks slick (always is) so be careful.
- Mile: 75.1 - They've paved in spots (yeah), but they didn't really improve the road (boo!).
- Mile: 81.8 - On the uphill, potholes on the right, traffic on the left. Be careful.
- Mile: 82.7 - Speed bumps, bridge expansion joints and potholes (for the next 1.5 miles).
- Mile: 86.4 - The hub cap graveyard is gone and they paved the bridge, how odd!
- Mile: 87.0 - The new hub cap graveyard? Potholes and rough road.
- Mile: 87.2 - Beware of potholes and sunken grates on the right side of this road for its entire length!
- Mile: 89.5 - They paved the road (confusing eh?). It still ahs heavy traffic, be careful
- Mile: 93.4 - Nasty potholes on the bridge (don't worry the creek isn't deep) and heavy traffic as you need to make a left
- Mile: 101.6 - As you turn, rough road, as you ride ... rough road.
- Mile: 102.0 - Short,s teep climb and potholes!
- Mile: 116.8 - Pothole as you turn
- Mile: 119.7 - Traffic is very heavy as you turn left onto Springfield. Be careful
- Mile: 125.5 - Park road has potholes between Rt 70 & the Ranger Station.
- Mile: 150.4 - A huge pot hole just before the Stop sign (could be filled in the next two weeks - ha!)
- Mile: 154.7 - Traffic light at crossing of Route 561; not on the cue sheet from last year.
- Mile: 1506.0 - 160.0 - Road construction continues with no sign of ending in the near future.
- Mile: 175.7 - There is a restaurant with food and drink available on the right.
- Mile: 192.0 - Construction on Railroad Avenue; sign says "weekdays only"
